Sequence
N-terminal aminoacids equence:Al a-Phe-Pro- Thr-Ile
3D Structure
ModBase 3D Structure for P01242
Purity/Purification
The purity human placental growth hormone 20 K is greater than 98.0% as determined by: (a) Gel filtration analysis > 97% monomers as determined by gel-filtration chromatography (b) Analysis by reducing and non-reducing SDS-PAGE gel.
Form/Format
Lyophilized from a concentrated (1mg/ml) solution with 0.0045mM NaHCO3 previously adjusted pH 11.
Endotoxin
Less than 0.1 ng/mug (1 IEU/mug) as determined by LAL test.
Directions for Use
It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized human placental growth hormone 20 K in sterile water or sterile 0.4% NaHCO3 adjusted to pH 10, not less than 100mug/ml, which can then be further diluted with other aqueous solutions.
Preparation and Storage
Lyophilized protein should be stored at -20 degree C, though stable at room temperature for 3 weeks. Reconstituted protein solution can be stored at 2-8 degree C for 2-7 days. Aliquots of reconstituted samples are stable at -20 degree C for 3 months.
Other Notes
Small volumes of GH2 recombinant protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for GH2
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the somatotropin/prolactin family of hormones which play an important role in growth control. The gene, along with four other related genes, is located at the growth hormone locus on chromosome 17 where they are interspersed in the same transcriptional orientation; an arrangement which is thought to have evolved by a series of gene duplications. The five genes share a remarkably high degree of sequence identity. Alternative splicing generates additional isoforms of each of the five growth hormones, leading to further diversity and potential for specialization. As in the case of its pituitary counterpart, growth hormone 1, the predominant isoform of this particular family member shows similar somatogenic activity, with reduced lactogenic activity. Mutations in this gene lead to placental growth hormone/lactogen deficiency. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
UniProt Comments for GH2
GH2: Plays an important role in growth control. Its major role in stimulating body growth is to stimulate the liver and other tissues to secrete IGF-1. It stimulates both the differentiation and proliferation of myoblasts. It also stimulates amino acid uptake and protein synthesis in muscle and other tissues. Belongs to the somatotropin/prolactin family. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 17q24.2
Cellular Component: extracellular region
Research Articles on GH2
1. Type 1 diabetic women delivering large for gestational age infants had lower placental GH levels in early pregnancy.
