If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. This antiserum was raised in rabbits which were immunized with vasoactive intstinal peptide (VIP) covalently attached onto a carrier protein. This antiserum is specific for VIP and can be used on histochemical preparations. western blots or for passive immunization.

It stimulates myocardial contractility, causes vasodilation, increases glycogenolysis, lowers arterial blood pressure and relaxes the smooth muscle of trachea, stomach and gall bladder. Alternative splicing occurs at this locus and two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq]

VIP: VIP causes vasodilation, lowers arterial blood pressure, stimulates myocardial contractility, increases glycogenolysis and relaxes the smooth muscle of trachea, stomach and gall bladder. Belongs to the glucagon family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
