Description |
Human CD14+ Monocytes are immature phagocytic cells circulating in the blood that phagocytize and degrade microbes and particulate matter. Monocytes can differentiate into macrophages as well as dendritic cells in vitro, both of which are important in host defense. These cells are useful in immunology-related research including phagocytic function and signaling, cellular immunity and antigen presentation studies.
Human CD14+ Monocytes can mature into 1) M1- or M2- macrophages using abm’s M1-Macrophage Differentiation Medium (TM006) or M2-Macrophage Differentiation Medium (TM007), respectively, or 2) dendritic cells using abm’s Dendritic Cell Differentiation Medium (TM008). |

These cells are extracted from whole blood using Lymphoprep(R), a hydrophilic polysaccharide that separates layers of blood, with monocytes and lymphocytes forming a buffy coat under a layer of plasma. |

The base medium for this cell line is Prigrow II medium available in abm, Cat. No. TM002. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: heat-inactivate fetal bovine serum to a final concentration of 10% and Penicillin/Streptomycin(G255). Atmosphere: air, 95%; Carbon dioxide (CO2), 5%.
